As far as I can gather, the vehicle was one of 7 or 8 units built to these specifications around 1976 by Durban-based company Walter McNaughtan (Pty) Ltd of Pinetown.
We bought the motorhome in mid 2007 from the previous owner who had had it for about 10 years or so but as he approached his mid 70's, the vehicle was just getting a bit too much for him to manage.
Upon securing the vehicle, we set out revamping it away from its 1970's style of orange Formica and blue carpets on the walls! - to a modern and sophisticated look of Mottled Maple with chrome and brushed aluminium finishes. To date, I would say we've revamped about two-thirds of the vehicle, so there's still some work to be done to get the same finish throughout, but she's perfectly functional as she currently is.

Facts and Figures
- Unladen, she weighs in at 4 040 kg.
- She's approximately 7.6 m long and 2.8 m wide (including wing mirrors) and 3.0 m high (highest point being top of the roof mounted aircon/heater unit).
- She drives on 6 tyres, 2 on the front steering axle and doubled up - 2 tyres each side - on the rear axle.
- Annual license is currently @ R 2 163 per year
- Annual insurance (via Motorhome Club of South Africa's special arrangements with insurers Manny Garrun) is @ R 1 100 per year.
On the Road
She can average about 75kph on the open road and is a pleasure to drive; high up with unlimited views. And let's face it - you're on holiday! - no need to racing around, giving you and your family time to enjoy the fabulous scenery this wonderful country of ours offers!
There's no mountain pass she can't go up or down - although I cannot lie and say she "speeds" up the steepest incline - but she will get you there, that's for sure!
On our last trip from Cape Town to Montagu, she averaged @ 6 km per ltr or 16.7 ltr per 100 km - not so bad when you consider how much she weighs and how many mountains we had to go up and down to get there! ...
I don't know to the last litre but the diesel tank capacity is somewhere @ 100 ltr.
Please Note: weighing more than 3 500 kg, this vehicle requires a Code C1 licence to operate legally on RSA roads - but that's easy/fun to get!
Known Faults
The fuel tank gauge has never worked since we had the vehicle. I simply top the tank up to full at the start of any journey.
Reason for Selling
The reason for sale is my family's imminent move to live in a security estate, where the parking and storage of such a large vehicle is sadly impractical; and hence this very reluctant sale!
Who Would This Vehicle Suit?
Just about any family who enjoy - or are looking to enjoy, the motorhoming lifestyle but who don't want to give up any of the creature comforts whilst away from home!
The vehicle could also be used for accommodating actors or actresses (even the "A-League" category!) for on-movie-set luxury comfort between takes!
The reliability of the vehicle would also make it ideal as a forward/team mobile base for races, expeditions. cross-Africa rallies, long distance motorbike or cycling rallies etc.
